Diary Entry For April 12, 2009
On Tuesday night, I went out to dinner with two of my very good customers, Garrett and Dustin from Lakes Technology Group. We went to the Outback Steak House which I still maintain serves one of the best steaks in the business! I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the local branch now offers to smother your meat in chunks of lobster and mushrooms. I know we were probably supposed to be talking about business, but all I could I do was bury my face in that steaming plate of succulent goodness!
On Wednesday night, we had the honor of attending a Passover Seder celebration with Grandma Linda and her Good Friend, George.
Since we're not Jewish, this was a brand new experience for us and one that we were excited to share with the boys. The Passover Seder is a ritual feast that is celebrated on the first night of Passover. Basically, we all gathered around the table where we prayed, then read out loud for awhile, then ate some stuff, then read some more, then ate some more, and repeated this for several hours.
This is a Seder Plate. I have to be honest that I was a bit nervous when I first saw it. In my mind, I questioned if we were going to be expected to eat what was on the plate. That bone in particular stood out to me because I thought that it might be a tough thing to get down my throat. Luckily, we didn't have to eat the bone and the other stuff ended up being pretty good!
This was Grandma Linda's second year participating in one of these celebrations, so she was our personal tour guide through the event since she was now an "expert". Apparently the book that George bought for the ritual was different then the version she went through last year. She pointed out on multiple occasions that this one was a lot longer and she kept asking if we could skip ahead. I had to remind her that Patience is a Virtue! She did seem happy when she got to light the candles, though.
The boys were doing really good participating in all the Seder traditions. Really good that is until the Matzah balls were served. Luke turned to me and whispered, "What are those?" I whispered back, "Ostrich Eyeballs." For some reason, the boys then lost their appetites. Kids are so gullible.
On Thursday night, we went to our church where the boys had the good fortune to participate in their First Communion Ceremony. The boys had each made their own chalices which they were supposed to have filled with wine which was then to be shared with the family. Since we had two participants, Miss Sheri went up with Luke and I went up with Avery. Luke's chalice was filled and he walked over to an area with his mom and was planning on waiting for us before he started. Avery was a bit confused, however, and thought he was supposed to drink everything immediately after it was served to him. So there he stood chugging a full chalice directly in front of the pastor. Luckily for us, they were serving apple juice instead of actual wine otherwise we may have had to carry the boy out of the place!
This is Pastor Margi. She's a very nice lady who helped the boys with preparations for First Communion. And that's all I have to say about that.
Spring is finally here! The ice is officially gone and the boat launch is full of empty trailers. The DNR hasn't put in the dock yet, so we're waiting awhile before taking the boat out for it's maiden voyage. It's gotta be soon, though, because I am soooooo done with winter!

Quote of the Week "Our chief want in life is somebody who will make us do what we can." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson, Poet Jokes of the Week Strange Sounds A man is driving down the road and breaks down near a monastery. He goes to the monastery, knocks on the door, and says, 'My car broke down. Do you think I could stay the night'?
The monks graciously accept
him, feed him dinner, and even fix his car. As the man tries to fall
asleep, he hears a strange sound; a sound like no other that he has ever
heard. The next morning, he asks the monks what the sound was, but they
say, 'We can't tell you. You're not a monk'.
The next morning, he asks what
the sound was, but the monks reply, The man says, 'All right, all right. I'm dying to know. If the only way I can find out what that sound was, is to become a monk, how do I become a monk'? The monks reply, 'You must travel the earth and tell us how many blades of grass there are and the exact number of sand pebbles. When you find these numbers, you will become a monk'. The man sets about his task. Some forty-five years later, he returns and knocks on the door of the monastery. He says, 'I have traveled the earth and devoted my life to the task demanded and have found what you had asked for. There are 371,145,236,284,232 blades of grass and 231,281,219,999,129,382 sand pebbles on the earth'.
The monks reply,
'Congratulations, you are correct and now you are a monk'. The man reaches for the knob, but the door is locked. He asks, 'May I have the key'? The monks give him the key, and he opens the door. Behind the wooden door is another door made of stone. The man requests the key to the stone door. The monks give him the key, and he opens it, only to find a door made of ruby. He demands another key from the monks, who provide it. Behind that door is another door, this one made of sapphire. And so it went until the man had gone through doors of emerald, silver, topaz, and amethyst. Finally, the monks say, 'This is the key to the last door'. The man is relieved to no end. He unlocks the door, turns the knob, and behind that door he is astonished to find the source of that strange sound. It is truly an amazing and unbelievable sight ---- - - - But I can't tell you what it is because you're not a monk. e sound Visit Shortarmguy's Crazy Email Page on Blogger!

"Obviously, Microsoft recognizes that Windows Vista is never going to be accepted as much as they'd like, and realizes that a lot of customers are going to remain on XP until Windows 7 comes out," Swank said. Shortarmguy's Emails To Make You Think Email Shortarmguy at Shortarmguy@aol.com
April 12, 2009
Pennies from Heaven You
always hear the usual stories of pennies on the sidewalk being good
luck, gifts from angels, etc. This is the first time I've ever heard
this twist on the story. Gives you something to think about.
As
the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant that
evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband.
Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was nothing on
the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped, and
a few cigarette butts Still silent, the man reached down and picked up
the penny. He
held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a
great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a single
penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up?
'Look at
it.' He said. 'Read what it says' She read the words ' United States of
America' 'No,
not that; read further.' 'One
cent?' 'No, keep reading.' 'In
God we Trust?' 'Yes!' 'And?' 'And
if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I
find a coin I see that inscription. It is written on every single United
States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right
in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by? When I
see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment.
I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a
short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is
God's way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is
patient and pennies are plentiful! When
I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and
picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my
mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, 'In God We Trust,'
and had to laugh. Yes, God, I get the message. It
seems that I have been finding an inordinate number of pennies in the
last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful! And, God is patient..
